Popularly known for its role in the "Ghostbusters" movies, the firehouse for Fire Hook & Ladder Company 08 is among New York City’s oldest — at more than 100 years — and one of its most decorated. CDR Studio was responsible for architectural design and construction management for the facility's exterior restoration and interior renovation. CDR navigated NYC Landmarks review, approval and execution of the complex exterior restoration, which included upgraded window replacement and masonry rehabilitation. Interior work involved the complete removal and reconfiguration of each floor, including structural reconstruction of the apparatus floor to meet weight requirements for the fire truck. Other upgrades included creation of a new housewatch (emergency dispatch area), installation of state-of-the-art communications technology and the design of bespoke living spaces (a modern kitchen, a new bunk room and officers quarters, and a loft lounge space).

CDR Studio was awarded this project by the NYC Department of Design and Construction as one of 24 small firms selected by the city agency through its “Design for Excellence” initiative.
