Called the "Terminal," the dealership design for Audi of America is challenging in its form and highly detailed in its planning. The creation of a clear implementation process supports the rollout of this master plan to individual Terminal dealerships. Working with a complex matrix of dealer teams, local architects, Audi of America and Audi AG, CDR Studio has been involved in more than 100 individual building projects for Audi in the last several years.

While the upgrade of the dealer network is a major portion of the day-to-day work for Audi of America, special projects garner the most attention. Working in conjunction with the German architects ASW and Audi executives, CDR Studio has helped to develop "lighthouse" projects - urban dealerships or showrooms that serve as brand statements and marketing tools - in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.

Audi

Since 2006, CR Studio has been the design architect for Audi of America. The role includes the adaptation and implementation of the architectural master plan for the United States dealership network. Additionally we have completed a diverse range of "special" projects from race schools, office design and lighthouse dealerships in major U.S. cities to the creation of a web-based tool for project tracking, management and furniture design. Audi's ethos of being progressive and sophisticated permeates every aspect of CR Studio's work for the dealership architecture program.

The commission to design the Discovery Center for the American Museum of Natural History outlined a program for 2,500 square feet of interactive educational space representing all major sciences, from anthropology to astrophysics. The project consisted of joining three different spaces into a coherent event: a circular room with 20-ft ceilings, the base of one of the 19th century turrets, a long narrow rectangle of a space, and a mezzanine space that slips between the main stair and adjacent Hall.

Snowmass Residence

The city of Aspen possesses historical texture and density as a remnant of a 19th century boomtown. It was an "instant" settlement, a grid expediently laid into a valley cradled by the Maroon Bells Mountain Range. The historic city proper mixes modest miners' cabins with more grandiose institutions of the Silver Rush era, such as banks and hotels. Nearby Snowmass Village emerged in the late 1960s from a different but similarly instantaneous lineage of pragmatic planning. It is Aspen's stepchild.

Hillsdale Screen House

Location:

The Hillsdale House is a weekend getaway in upstate New York on the last eastern ridge overlooking both the Berkshires and the Catskills. The approach to the site is heavily veiled, allowing no hint of the views that are about to be revealed. CDR Studio's response to this dramatic site was to continue the screening effect, revealing the view gradually throughout the house. As the scheme developed, we sought to further mediate the long, expansive views by contrasting them with views of the more intimate courtyard landscape to the south.
